The Florence Unified School District is committed to making thoughtful, data-driven decisions that best serve our students, families, staff, and community. As the district evaluates necessary budget reductions, we are forming a Steering Committee to study, evaluate, and recommend potential options to the Governing Board.
As presented at the January 13th Governing Board Meeting, this committee will explore topics such as possible school closures or consolidations, reconfiguration of existing schools (including a potential 7–12 model), consideration of a four-day school week, long-term fiscal sustainability, and strategies to ensure meaningful community engagement and transparency throughout the process.
The goal of this committee is to ensure decisions are informed by comprehensive data, including enrollment projections, facilities conditions, staffing models, fiscal analysis, and instructional needs, while incorporating diverse stakeholder perspectives.
Please note that not all applicants may be selected to serve, as committee membership will be based on ensuring the appropriate background, knowledge, and expertise needed to evaluate complex data and develop clear, evidence-based recommendations for the Superintendent and Governing Board, while maintaining open and transparent communication with the community. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please complete the form attached to this message no later than 12:00pm on January 28, 2026.
