Poston Butte High School is excited to announce that five students have earned academic honors through the College Board National Recognition Program. This prestigious award acknowledges high-achieving students, with a focus on first-generation college students, rural and small-town students, and those identifying as Black, Indigenous, or Hispanic/Latino. These recognitions play a crucial role in expanding college access, as many institutions use them in their recruitment efforts.

The honored students include:

  • Graeson Herman – 11th grade, US History
  • Brayden Robinson – 11th grade, Top 10% in Arizona
  • Ryan Ray – 12th grade, Chemistry, Computer Science Principles, English Language, US History
  • Aylin Rodriguez-Cardenas – 12th grade, Scholar in English, Spanish, US History
  • Jason Williams – 12th grade, Scholar in Chemistry, English, US History

Additionally, seniors Jason Williams and Aylin Rodriguez-Cardenas have been named 2024 AP Scholars for achieving passing scores on three Advanced Placement (AP) exams.

To qualify for these recognitions, students must maintain a GPA of B+ or higher, rank in the top 10% on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or score 3 or higher on at least two AP exams by the end of 10th grade. Students must also either attend school in a rural or small town or identify as first-generation, African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, or Indigenous.

"We’re incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and academic excellence," said Poston Butte High School Principal Eddie Lopez. "This recognition not only honors their individuality but also underscores the bright futures ahead for them."

This year, the College Board National Recognition Program has expanded to recognize over 90,000 students nationwide. "We are proud to help colleges and universities connect with these talented students," said Amy Reitz, senior vice president of BigFuture at College Board. "These students bring unique perspectives and strengths that will enrich their future campuses."
